Artist’s Alley features five working artists and writers from the worlds of print and web comics, book publishing, and local young creators who’ll be displaying their work–with material for sale, the occasional free giveaway.

Pick up an Artist Scavenger Hunt Clue Card at the beginning of your visit to Kids Read Comics, find the answers and solve the puzzle for a “drawing” slip!  You could win some brand new comics!

Draw Your Own Alien Animals!

Cute and cuddly, or spiky and scary? Young and old are invited to create their own alien animals with James Anderson, creator of Ellie on Planet X and our KRC Chelsea 2019 poster creator!

Four Panel Mystery Game

Four Artists, four panels — what’s the story?!  Find out as the the artists create right before your very eyes!

Craft Your Way to Cosplay

Explore cosplay with the League of Enchantment!  Have you ever wanted to make your own superhero or fantasy costume, comic-con-style? Here’s a chance to get your start with foam-crafting projects brought to you by local cosplayers from the League of Enchantment. You’ll be battling bad guys and defeating dragons in no time!

Chalk Art Challenge

Chalk Art in the Reading Garden!  Denise Cugliari from Chelsea Chalk Art will lead a chalk art workshop outside in the Reading Garden, weather permitting.  She will be demonstrating how to draw iconic superheroes, with chalk provided.

Costume Show & Awards

The League of Enchantment presents the Kids Read Comics 2019 Costume Show!  Show off your costume and pick up more raffle tickets for the Artist Prize Packs! Get your photo taken with one of our amazing League of Enchantment Cosplay Experts.

1:15- 1:45pm | Large Study Room 

Draw with an Artist: Corinne Roberts

Draw with an artist! One of the artists will be drawing in the Large Study Room, and you can join them as they work, drawing your own art and asking questions.  Space is limited to the first 12 kids who arrive at the 2nd floor information desk.

1:30 – 3:00pm | McKune  

Make a Minicomic with Matt Feazell

YOU CAN MAKE A COMIC BOOK! All you need is a pencil and the WILL TO DRAW. Participants will learn how to make an 8-page book out of one sheet of paper AND the secrets to telling a comic book story to fill those pages in 90 minutes or less. All ages are welcome and it’s most popular with kids age 9–13.

Making Stuff That Happens to You Fun to Read!

Even if you don’t yet keep a diary or sketchbook of your life, you can use life stories from you and people around you to create scenes, characters and adventures. Join author/illustrator Ruth McNally Barshaw, creator of the Ellie McDoodle Diaries series, for some hints on how real life can become real fun.
