The Chelsea District Library is proud to present its 2018 Summer Reading Programs! Our Summer Reading Programs are geared towards every age group, encouraging learning and reading throughout these warmer and sunnier months.

Information about all our programs can be found below along with registration links.

Get signed up for Summer Reading in just 2 steps!

  • Click the registration button above. Follow the prompts to complete registration.
  • Come to the library during Summer Reading Kickoff on June 14 (or any time after) to pick up your Reading Log and start reading!

How does the Summer Reading Game work?

  • Read, read, read from June 14 – August 1!
  • For every 5 hours (or books) read, you get a small prize and entry into our Grand Prize Drawings.
  • Keep on reading; after 20 hours/books, you earn a free book!
  • Earn extra entries into our Grand Prize Drawings by coming to a summer program, exploring the Discovery Center at the youth information desk, checking out a Challenge Card, and more!

This year’s Grand Prizes include tickets to Cedar Point, a 3-month pass to the Chelsea Treehouse, artist and science kits, and more!

Grand Prize winners will be announced after the Finale at 1:30pm on August 1.

Sign Up for Summer Reading Online!

  • Click the button above to register. Once you’ve registered, visit the library at Kickoff on June 14, or after, to pick up your Reading Log!
  • Earn a small prize and a Grand Prize Drawing slip after reading 5, 10, and 15 hours.
  • Read for 20 hours to win a free book!
  • Keep reading to earn extra Grand Prize Drawing slips.
  • BMS and CHS students who complete summer reading may receive special incentives from their schools in the Fall.
  • GRAND PRIZES: $100 Amazon gift card, Cedar Point tickets, and more!

All entries are due by 12 Noon on August 1. Winners will be announced at the Teen Summer Reading Finale on Friday, August 3.

NEW this year! Teens who complete Summer Reading by reading at least 20 hours are invited to attend our special Teen After Hours Finale Party on Friday, August 3 from 6-8pm! We’ll be trying out a virtual reality system, plus have pizza, karaoke, games, crafts, and more. You MUST have completed Summer Reading in order to attend– so read up!

Reading Takes You Everywhere! Adult Summer Reading Bingo Game

Reading Takes You Everywhere right here in Chelsea with our 2018 Adult Summer Reading Bingo Game. Read books or complete different activities listed in the bingo squares in order to win prizes all summer long.

2nd Annual Music in the Air featuring Joy Jan Jones & Jacopo Giacopuzzi at our Adult Summer Reading Kick-off

Saturday, Jun. 2 | 2–3pm

Jacopo’s back — and he’s sharing the stage with soprano Joy Jan Jones! Grab a seat or bring a blanket and join us for this extraordinary opportunity to hear classical music in a casual, outdoor environment. Adult Services staff will also be on site to help you sign up for our 2017 Adult Summer Reading Bingo!

Joy Jan Jones is a versatile artist in high demand. She has received top honors from the Classical Singer and MTNA Competitions, and holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Sam Houston University and Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam respectively. Her operatic repertoire includes Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and originated the role of Mother in Daniel Felsenfeld’s opera-in-development The Inner Circle. She has sung at Carnegie Hall, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter Auditorium, and National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
