Michigan’s Historic Railroad Stations & Adult Summer Reading Kick-off

Wednesday, Jun. 15 | 7–9pm
Chelsea Depot | 125 Jackson St.

Join us for this presentation in our own Historic Chelsea Depot. Also, find out about our Adult Summer Reading Game, prizes, and how to sign-up!

For his book, Michigan’s Historic Railroad Stations, Detroit News arts writer Michael H. Hodges photographed and profiled 31 depots across the state, from Detroit to Iron Mountain to Three Oaks, and including Chelsea’s Depot. In this lecture and slideshow, Hodges traces the evolution of the train station and the styles architects employed to both tame and exalt rail transportation. Touching on news accounts, literature and lm, Hodges also considers the central role the depot once played as the nation’s principal crossroads — a much-used, much-loved public space that has no real analog in American life today. In partnership with Chelsea Depot Association.
